The Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), with the Ministry of Energy, Commerce, and Industry (MECI) of Cyprus and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), will be co-organising the 7th International Conference on Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Efficiency (RESEE2023) to share best practices, lessons learned and opportunities to accelerate the deployment of Renewable Energy (RE) technologies and highlighting the importance of Energy Efficiency in Cyprus and similar economies, to emphasise the significance of energy diversification for energy security.
In the Cyprus context, the RE share in the total final energy consumption reached 18,42%, in 2021, exceeding the trajectory set in National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP), which reflected one of the highest shares increase among EU countries and ranks Cyprus first in the EU per capita in solar penetration. Cyprus is currently reviewing its National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP), which aims to incorporate the updated European policies towards 2030 and 2050, as well as the national obligations that will arise from the new legislative revisions included in the “Fit for 55” and “REPowerEU” packages. It will also consider the latest technological advancements such as energy storage, process heat, hydrogen, electricity in the transport sector, and macroeconomic data.
RESEE2023 will be held on 12-14 of October 2023 at the Hilton Hotel, Nicosia, Cyprus following six successful conferences, since 2007. The topics that will be covered in the conference will include but not limited to renewable energy sources and technologies, long term energy planning and RE Roadmap towards Cyprus’ NECP, Geothermal for heating and cooling, island and regional cooperation, island tourism, digitalization and blockchain technology, energy supply security, e-mobility and smart charging for electric vehicles, energy communities and active consumers, energy efficiency, green buildings, weather forecasting, rural electrification, energy markets, desalination solutions for islands, green hydrogen and battery storage amongst others.
The aim of the RESEE2023 is to bring together key stakeholders of renewable energy and energy efficiency to discuss and share best practices, lessons learned and opportunities to advance the accelerated uptake of renewables and energy efficiency interventions in Cyprus and in similar economies.
The conference will provide an avenue for policymakers, researchers, scientists, manufacturers, companies, communities representatives, development agencies, international organizations, financing institutions, private sector and governments in keeping abreast of new developments that will facilitate energy transition efforts and provide opportunities for partnerships and collaborations to address the barriers and challenges.
Furthermore, the conference will bring together the United Nations Peacekeeping Missions around the world that wish to decarbonize their energy supply systems and reduce environmental footprint contributing to the UN Secretary General’s Climate Action Plan target of 80% renewable energy by 2030.
Participants in the event could include:
- Decision makers, Ministers, managers, and public sector policymakers.
- Representatives of national and international organisations willing to share relevant analyses on technology, innovation, policy, finance and experience on renewable energy adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy, promotion of energy efficiency techniques and the role of digitalization.
- Regulators, utilities and operators enriching the conference with their views on the changing needs of systems in delivering the quality of supply and flexibility that everybody expects.
- Members of the research and academic communities aiming at exchanging results, sharing experiences and work on new technologies.
